(Micellium Partner) Atawey is one of the French leaders in hydrogen refueling stations and contributes to decarbonizing mobility. It manufactures, installs, and operates hydrogen production, compression, and distribution stations of small, medium, and large capacities, both fixed and mobile. It prioritizes low-carbon solutions and offers green hydrogen options in all its products.
Founded in 2021 by Jean-Michel Amaré and Pierre-Jean Bonnefond, Atawey quickly established itself as a reference partner for local authorities and industries seeking to decarbonize their vehicle fleets. With around thirty stations in service in France by 2024, Atawey contributes to the integration of the sector and is in exclusive negotiations with McPhy to acquire their network of refueling stations. It has also begun European expansion in Spain and the Netherlands for Northern Europe, with plans to extend to Italy and Eastern Europe soon, before expanding to England and Germany.
While the consensus in recent years seemed to accept that light vehicle decarbonization would be electric and heavy vehicles would use hydrogen, recent developments in electric heavy vehicles are reshuffling the cards. However, the belief remains that batteries cannot address all industrial mobility needs, and many manufacturers are accelerating their hydrogen solutions with production models beyond prototypes and concept cars. Atawey is now riding this trend to develop the necessary refueling infrastructure for these vehicles.
A tireless advocate for decarbonized mobility, Atawey created the Atawey Academy to train its own teams and partners, ensuring the success of the ongoing paradigm shift. One of the key challenges for success will be the evolution of regulations, especially in Europe, to avoid imposing fuel cells as the only mobility solution, and to also authorize hydrogen injection combustion engines, which still emit some carbon but much less, and would be a much faster and less costly step in converting fleets to hydrogen and fulfilling the promise that the 21st century will be the transition from a carbon-based economy to a hydrogen-based one.
